Description:
In above-knee prosthetic components, the Valve for AK Use is primarily employed to enable suction suspension functionality. By expelling air from the socket, it creates a vacuum seal that securely adheres the prosthesis to the residual limb, preventing slippage and enhancing stability and safety during wear. Typically designed as a one-way exhaust valve, it automatically releases air from the socket during walking or movement, maintaining a vacuum state to ensure a snug fit between the prosthesis and the residual limb, thereby reducing friction and discomfort. Additionally, the valve is designed for easy manual pressure release, allowing users to don and doff the prosthesis effortlessly, improving daily convenience.
Cast Rectification:
Determine the valve location on the plaster model and flatten the area with a file to ensure the dummy sits flush. In the center hole of the dummy place a mark on the plaster model with an indelible marker. Drill a 2mm vacuum hole using a long drill. Attach the dummy to the plaster model, using the nails provided.
